7 Days Post-Surgery
Mood: Energetic
Weight Loss Status: 13 lbs
It's been 7 days since my surgery... For the first time since I went to the hospital, I'm feeling optimistic, strong, and positive. I went to the grocery store today and found I had more energy. My incisions are healing nicely, but two are still sore and bruised. Tomorrow I meet with the nurse practitioner and dietitian at Vanderbilt to review how my first week has gone.
My biggest complaint since the surgery has been nausea, which I experienced the last time I had anesthesia. My surgeon told me that this nausea can continue for up to 8 weeks post-surgery. Luckily, I was able to have one of the nurses change my nausea medication yesterday to Phenergan. It's made a huge impact on how I'm feeling, and I've noticed that I can start feeling full when I eat.
Today I start soft foods, so I'm slowly weaning myself off of mush! Today I had what I would consider to be almost a "real" meal... turkey pepperoni and mozzarella cheese melted together. 16g of protein and I felt like I was eating pizza again! Lots of chewing and patience, but it feels good to not be eating pureed soup.
My goal for tomorrow: get all of my questions answered from the nurse and dietitian, and maybe try a low-carb high-protein pancake for breakfast!
